To make it happen you will need to set-up Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
Step 1 – How to install Google Analytics?
Setting up Google Analytics will take 10 quick steps or 2 minutes.
- Click here to go to Google Analytics.
Note: If you have a Google account, and are not signed in, click Sign in. If you do not have a Google account, click Create an account. - Once you have signed in to your Google account, click Access Google Analytics.
- Click Sign up.
- Fill in your Account Name (1), Website Name (2), Website URL (3), and select an Industry Category (4) and Reporting Time Zone (4).
- Under Data Sharing Options, check the boxes next to the options that you want.
- Click Get Tracking ID.
- From the Google Analytics Terms of Service Agreement that opens, click I Accept.
- Then Head over to Tracking Info Section.
- And copy your tracking code.
- This code you will have to insert into every page you want to track right after the <Head> section.
Done – this was the most time-consuming part. You will start seeing the keywords you rank for within few more steps.
Step 2 – How to install Google Search Console?
Implementing Google Search Console is easy only when you have installed Google Analytics:
- Head over to GSC and click on Add a Property.
- Then select Alternate Methods (1) and check Google Analytics (2).
- Then head over to this site and create a sitemap for your website.
- You will have to upload this sitemap on your server.
- Afterward, insert the name of your sitemap in Google Search Console, click on Crawl (1), Sitemaps (2), and Add Sitemap (3), where you will have to insert the name of your freshly created sitemap.
Once this is done you are ready to monitor the keywords you rank for.
What keywords do I rank for?
Head over to Google Search Console (monitoring is FREE) and click on Search Traffic (1), select Search Analytics (2) and select the clicks (3) as well as the position (4).
Down below you can see what keywords you rank for and you can sort these queries according to the highest position (6):
Then when you know using which keywords people find your website. You can optimize your site based on these queries and get more organic traffic.
